Dillon Lew'chuk
Queer, (Dis)Abled,
Ukrainian-Canadian Artist
"When I first saw One Brick at a Time, I was struck by its quiet power. A single brick—wrapped in thread, with care—becomes something far greater than itself. Dillon Lew’chuk transforms an object of protest into an act of remembrance, of gratitude, of love. They take something heavy, even ordinary, and turn it into an offering. This work honours those who came before—the people who loved fiercely so that others could live more freely. The brick becomes a symbol of protest, yes, but also of building—of gratitude, courage, and community. It reminds us that resistance and tenderness are never far apart. What moves me most is its humility. Through this work, Dillon shows that progress is made slowly—one gesture, one voice, one brick at a time. It’s a reminder that our shared story is still being built."
